Guide to Writing Your Testimony

image

Following is a brief outline with questions to help you write about your encounter with Jesus. Our prayer is this will be a spiritual experience as you reflect and write about God’s saving grace in your life. Please feel free to contact your Mike May, Education Pastor at First Brandon (), if you need help writing your story. Once your testimony is written, please email it to: .  If you do not have access to a computer or e-mail, you may write it out and bring it to the Ministry Information Center or church office during the week.

1. Share, briefly, about your life before you accepted Jesus as your personal Savior.
• What were your attitudes, needs, concerns, family situation?
• What happened to make you aware of your need for Jesus?

2. Share how you came to the point of praying to receive Jesus as your personal Savior.
• Why did you decide to pray to receive Christ as your personal Savior?
• Was there a key passage of scripture that helped you come to this decision?
• Who were some significant people that played a role in helping you make this decision?
• Describe when you prayed to receive Jesus as your personal Savior: (time of year, place, age, etc.)
• Have you been baptized by immersion since receiving Christ? (This is a requirement for membership at First Brandon)

3. Share about your life after you accepted Jesus as your personal Savior.
• How has your life, actions and attitudes changed since you accepted Christ as your personal Savior?
• What is God teaching you right now?
• Is there a verse of scripture that is extremely meaningful to you or one that serves as your daily guide for life?

Why does First Brandon require this for membership?

We believe the bible instructs every believer to be prepared to give an answer for the hope that is within them (I Peter 3:15). At First Brandon, we value sharing the story of how Jesus can change a person’s life. Every story is a beautiful and unique picture of life-change. Whether you have just accepted Christ as Savior or you accepted Christ thirty years ago, we want to hear your story!

Who will read my testimony?

Due to the personal nature of a testimony, we treat this responsibility with the utmost confidentiality. Linda Goodman, the Education Pastor’s Ministry Assistant, receives your testimony and forwards it to a designated decision counselor. ONLY IF you are scheduling baptism, will your testimony be forwarded to the pastor who is performing the baptism. If you would like for your testimony to go directly to Mike May, our Education Pastor, you may send it to him at, .

Will I have to read/present my testimony to others?

No. It is only for our records.
